BlueBubbles is an open-source, community-driven project that relays iMessages through a Mac acting as a local server, enabling full iMessage access on non-Apple platforms. Launched in 2020 by developer Zach Shames — a cybersecurity engineer based in the Washington D.C. metro area — it became one of the first completely free and open-source solutions for iMessage interoperability, maintained by a small volunteer core team with contributions from the wider community.
