The curl project is an open-source initiative founded in 1998 by Swedish developer Daniel Stenberg, who originally built it as a personal tool to fetch currency-exchange rates for an IRC bot. It has since grown into software embedded in an estimated 20 billion devices — from smartphones and automobiles to satellites and spacecraft — and ships by default with macOS, Windows, and virtually every Linux distribution. Stenberg continues to lead development full-time at wolfSSL.
