curl is the open-source command-line tool and libcurl library for transferring data with URLs. Daniel Stenberg began the work in 1996 by extending HttpGet for an IRC bot that fetched currency-exchange rates, and the project took the name curl with curl 4 in March 1998. The project says it runs in over twenty billion installations, in devices from cars and phones to medical equipment. Stenberg remains its founder and lead developer and works on curl full-time for wolfSSL and Haxx.
