Ghostty is an open-source project founded by Mitchell Hashimoto, co-founder and long-time CTO of HashiCorp — the infrastructure software company behind Terraform, Vagrant, and Vault — after he departed the company in late 2023 to return to individual-contributor work. Hashimoto began the project as a personal side project in 2021 while exploring the Zig programming language and GPU graphics programming, and open-sourced it in December 2024, where it quickly accumulated over 57,000 GitHub stars.
