MongoDB Inc. is the company behind MongoDB, a widely used document-oriented database designed to handle large-scale, flexible data rather than rigid relational tables. Founded in 2007 (originally as 10gen) by Dwight Merriman, Eliot Horowitz, and Kevin Ryan, former DoubleClick engineers, the company released MongoDB as open source in 2009 and rebranded to MongoDB Inc. in 2013. It later launched the Atlas cloud database service and went public on NASDAQ (MDB) in 2017.
