MongoDB, Inc. is the New York-based company behind MongoDB, a document-oriented database built for large volumes of unstructured data. It was founded in 2007 as 10gen by Dwight Merriman, Eliot Horowitz and Kevin P. Ryan, released MongoDB as open source in 2009, adopted the MongoDB name in 2013 and went public on Nasdaq in 2017. Its Atlas database-as-a-service, launched in 2016, now accounts for most of its revenue.
