Mullvad is a Swedish VPN service founded in March 2009 in Gothenburg by Fredrik Strömberg and Daniel Berntsson, run today as Mullvad VPN AB, a subsidiary of Amagicom AB that the founders own outright with no outside investors. The company built its reputation on privacy-by-design: it requires no email or personal details to open an account, keeps no activity logs, and was among the first VPN providers to adopt the WireGuard protocol. Its client software is released as open source under the GPLv3 license, and organizations such as the Freedom of the Press Foundation have listed it among VPN services meeting recommended privacy standards.
