n8n is a Berlin-based workflow automation platform founded in 2019 by Jan Oberhauser, a former visual-effects pipeline engineer. It combines a visual, node-based editor with the ability to write custom JavaScript or Python, and can be self-hosted or run as a managed cloud service under a source-available "fair-code" license. The company has grown into one of Germany's most valuable startups, raising $180 million in an October 2025 Series C at a $2.5 billion valuation and later drawing a strategic investment from SAP.
