Neon is a Postgres database company founded in 2021 by Nikita Shamgunov, Heikki Linnakangas, and Stas Kelvich, known for separating storage and compute to enable serverless scaling and Git-like database branching. In May 2025, Databricks announced it would acquire Neon for roughly $1 billion to power Postgres backends for AI agents and applications, with Neon continuing to operate as a standalone product.
