npmx is the open-source organization behind npmx.dev, an alternative browser for the npm registry offering faster search and richer package metadata than the official npmjs.com interface. It was founded by Daniel Roe, leader of the Nuxt core team, along with Salma Alam-Naylor and Vite core team member Matias Capeletto, after a January 2026 Bluesky thread on npmjs.com frustrations drew widespread developer response. The project grew rapidly, drawing dozens of pull requests within a day of its code going public and over 1,000 issues and PRs within two weeks, and has been covered by The Register and InfoQ as a grassroots effort highlighting stagnation in official npm tooling.
