Pinecone is a vector database company founded in 2019 by Edo Liberty, a former research director at AWS and Yahoo, who set out to build packaged vector-search infrastructure for AI applications after seeing that only large enterprises could build such systems in-house. Headquartered with offices in the US and Israel, it offers a fully managed, serverless vector database used to power retrieval and long-term memory for generative AI applications. The company has raised over $138 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, ICONIQ, and Menlo Ventures, and serves thousands of paying customers alongside a large free-tier developer base.
