PostHog is an open-source product-analytics platform founded in January 2020 by James Hawkins and Tim Glaser — two engineers who met at Arachnys before going through Y Combinator's W20 batch. They built PostHog on the conviction that product analytics had been designed for marketers rather than engineers, and that teams should be able to self-host and control their own data. The company reached unicorn status in 2025 on $194M raised and now serves more than 190,000 engineering teams.
