Prior Labs is a Freiburg, Germany-based AI research company and creator of TabPFN, an open-source tabular foundation model with more than three million downloads. It was founded in late 2024 by AutoML researcher Frank Hutter, computer scientist Noah Hollmann, and Sauraj Gambhir, and raised a 9 million euro pre-seed round in early 2026. Later in 2026, SAP announced its acquisition of Prior Labs to anchor a frontier AI lab in Europe, in a deal reported to be worth more than 1 billion euros over four years.
