run-llama is the GitHub organization behind LlamaIndex, an open-source data framework that connects large language models to private and enterprise data for retrieval-augmented generation and AI agent applications. Founded by Jerry Liu and Simon Suo, it grew out of a late-2022 side project called GPT Tree Index and was incorporated as a company in San Francisco in 2023, raising a $19M Series A in 2025. The org's open-source tools are widely used by developers, and the company has since expanded into agentic document parsing and OCR for enterprise use.
