RustDesk is a Singapore-based open-source company founded in 2020 by Huabing Zhou, a software engineer with over a decade of financial-IT experience who built the project after rejecting the high cost of TeamViewer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Written in Rust and designed for self-hosting, it launched on GitHub in 2021 and has grown into the most popular open-source remote desktop platform on earth, with over 10 million registered users and backing from OSS Capital.
