shadcn/ui (GitHub org shadcn-ui, flagship repo "ui") is an open-source, MIT-licensed collection of accessible, customizable React components built on Radix UI primitives and Tailwind CSS, distributed as copy-in source code via a CLI rather than an installed npm package. It was created by a developer known as "shadcn" and launched in early 2023; a CLI was added in June 2023, and shadcn joined Vercel that August as a design engineer to continue the project. The library has grown into one of the most widely used UI toolkits in the React ecosystem, with over 100,000 GitHub stars and adoption by companies including OpenAI, Adobe, and Sonos.
