Significant-Gravitas is the organization behind AutoGPT (originally Auto-GPT), an open-source autonomous AI agent framework created by Toran Bruce Richards, founder of video game studio Significant Gravitas Ltd., and released March 30, 2023. Built on OpenAI's GPT models, it lets users specify a goal in natural language which the agent then breaks into sub-tasks and executes autonomously (web browsing, file management, memory), rather than requiring turn-by-turn chatbot commands. It quickly became one of GitHub's most-starred repositories and repeatedly trended on social media, helping popularize the 'AI agent' category; the company raised $12 million in venture funding in October 2023 to continue development.
