Tailwind Labs is the company behind Tailwind CSS, a utility-first CSS framework first released by Adam Wathan in late 2017 and turned into a full-time business in January 2019 with business partner Steve Schoger; Jonathan Reinink and David Hemphill are also credited as original authors. The framework grew into a multimillion-dollar business built on paid products like Tailwind UI, though the company cut roughly 75% of its engineering team in early 2026 as Wathan cited falling documentation traffic and revenue amid the rise of AI coding agents.
