Trello is a visual, board-based work management tool that began as an internal project at Fog Creek Software (co-founded by Joel Spolsky), prototyped in 2011 under the codename "Trellis" and launched publicly at TechCrunch Disrupt that September. It spun out as an independent company, Trello Inc., in 2014 under CEO Michael Pryor, raising a $10.3M Series A from Index Ventures and Spark Capital. Atlassian acquired Trello in January 2017 for roughly $425 million, and it now operates as part of Atlassian's product suite.
