Z Lab is an academic research group at the University of California, San Diego's Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute, led by Assistant Professor Zhijian Liu (Ph.D., MIT). Affiliated with UCSD's ML Systems Group and Center for Visual Computing, the lab researches efficient machine learning through full-stack innovation spanning algorithms (model compression, sparsity), systems (hardware-conscious infrastructure), and applications in generative AI, robotics, and scientific discovery. It is a university lab rather than a company, though it operates a public GitHub org and Hugging Face presence for its released code and models.
