Epoch poll: cyber incidents flat even as AI-driven disclosures climb

The share of US adults experiencing a cyber incident hasn't grown since Claude Fable 5's release. About 45% reported at least one incident in the past 12 months when we asked in September, compared with 46% in June. Other indicators have increased, such as vulnerability disclosures from notable organizations (around 5× per our previous research). Our poll with @Ipsos measures something different: whether more people experience incidents themselves.

Context
Epoch AI reports that the share of US adults experiencing a cyber incident has not grown since the release of Anthropic's Claude Fable 5. In a poll run with Ipsos, about 45% said they had at least one incident in the past 12 months when asked in September, compared with 46% in June. The chart's alt text describes each individual incident type as also roughly unchanged.
Epoch contrasts this with other indicators that have risen, such as vulnerability disclosures from notable organizations, around five times higher according to its earlier research, which was not examined here. The two measure different things: disclosures count flaws organizations report, while the poll asks whether people themselves were affected. The post gives no sample size or margin of error, so it does not let a reader judge whether a one-point difference means anything, and a flat poll alone does not show the release had no effect on cyber risk.
