Context
Cua's April 2026 macOS driver preview lets agents target real Mac applications in the background. It extends the idea behind its earlier container-based desktop approach to applications running on the Mac itself. The technical account describes addressing controls through accessibility information and delivering coordinate-based clicks to a specific application through the private SkyLight framework.
These routes can let an act without moving the user's pointer or raising the target window. Compatibility determines whether that holds: the article identifies canvas-based applications that require foreground activation and limitations on synthetic right-clicks in browser content. The driver also needs Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions granted in macOS settings. Background operation therefore depends on the application, the action and those permissions.
