Context

Appshots gives OpenAI's Codex both a picture of an application window and text from that window, including content outside the visible area. The May 21, 2026 announcement describes pressing Command twice on a Mac to attach that material to a Codex conversation.

This provides two kinds of together: the window's visible appearance and its underlying text. The announcement described Mac availability across plans, with enterprise access still forthcoming. It established a way to supply context for a task, without claiming that attaching a window grants control over the application.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • context window — The maximum amount of text a model can consider at once — its working memory for the current conversation or task.
  • AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
