ContextDebt scans JS/TS, WordPress/PHP, or Python repositories for 'context debt': comments describing workarounds, polyfills, or retry logic whose original justification (an upstream bug, an unsupported browser, a since-changed default) no longer applies. It checks comments that cite GitHub issues against whether those issues were actually closed as fixed, flagging self-admitted workarounds whose stated reason has expired so teams can remove code that AI coding tools keep reading and billing for.
Why it made the leaderboard
It targets a real, underserved category of tech debt, dead workarounds still burning tokens and reviewer attention, with a fast, checkable public run against real repos.
