About
This interactive tool shows the 1569 Mercator projection and the Equal Earth projection (adopted by the UN for its maps in 2026) side by side, synced so panning or zooming one map moves the other. It highlights how Mercator inflates landmass toward the poles, for example making Greenland look as large as Africa when Africa is actually about 14 times bigger, and lets users drag countries between maps to compare true relative sizes.
