Meta's revised AI data-loading system lets researchers access datasets across regions through caches, reducing the need to prepare a complete local snapshot before each experiment. Its storage account describes keeping data in global storage and bringing needed portions into regional flash, host flash and memory.
The loader fetches the next batch while the current one is processed. A separate prefetch request can bring data needed over the next few minutes into the region ahead of use. This exchanges some risk of slower fetches for faster iteration on smaller jobs. Prebuilt regional snapshots remain available for long, large training runs where loading performance takes priority.
