Hobby projects now retain fewer deployments to free up storage

Context

Vercel changed Hobby deployment retention to reduce the storage occupied by old projects. Each project protects its three newest production deployments and its three newest deployments overall, with overlap possible. Preview deployments no longer have a separate protected allowance. Current production, aliased deployments and active-branch deployments retain their protections, according to the changelog.

The timing matters when a team exceeds its 10GB Deployment Storage limit: deployments outside the exceptions become eligible for immediate deletion instead of waiting 30 days. This frees capacity that can otherwise prevent new deployments, while reducing how much unprotected deployment history remains available.

Key takeaways · AI-distilled
  • Hobby projects now keep only their 3 most recent production deployments plus their 3 most recent deployments of any type (regardless of age) — everything else outside the listed exceptions is now eligible for cleanup, replacing the old blanket 30-day window.
  • Preview deployments no longer get their own protection from cleanup, though the current production deployment, aliased deployments, and active-branch deployments remain protected.
  • If a Hobby team is over its 10GB Deployment Storage limit, non-exempt deployments are now deleted immediately instead of waiting out the previous 30-day retention grace period.
  • Teams that want more history can upgrade to Pro, where Deployment Storage is billed separately at $0.10 per GB per month instead of being capped at 10GB.
