Sakana Translate switches to the Namazu model generation

Sakana AI updated Sakana Translate with a newer Namazu model generation to improve how it carries Japanese cultural meaning into another language. Its release article illustrates the aim with omiyamairi: the translation explains a baby's first shrine visit, making the cultural reference understandable in English.

The company evaluated 160 Japanese-to-English tasks using its own TransEvalnia comparison method, which judges qualities including word choice and naturalness. It reports that its translations were preferred in more than half the comparisons against each of three named competitors, with the release chart showing 54.0% to 66.9%. That supports a specific result on the company's own evaluation set; it leaves performance across other kinds of text and language directions open.
