Anthropic argues that expanding AI computing capacity depends on electricity generation, transmission and grid connections being built together. Its July 2025 policy post says it expects total frontier-model training demand in the United States to reach 20 to 25 gigawatts by 2028, and that at least as much will likely be needed to run models for everyday use. These are Anthropic's projections, used to motivate a policy agenda rather than measured demand. The proposed response pairs faster permitting for energy projects and data centers with transmission buildout, faster grid interconnection, reserves of critical grid components and turbines, and training programs for energy and construction workers. The post is a summary of recommendations to policymakers; none is described as enacted.
