Context
Recent sensor measurements can update an AI weather estimate while a forecasting pipeline waits for its next large-scale analysis. NVIDIA's Earth-2 tutorial describes score-based data assimilation: during successive prediction-refinement steps, the system compares predicted conditions with observations and nudges the result toward those measurements, without retraining the model.
For a wind-energy operator, this offers a way to incorporate local measurements into a regional forecast. The tutorial also describes using turbine power output as an indirect observation when a suitable model connects it to wind speed. The usefulness of either approach depends on observation accuracy, sensor coverage and how well that connection represents the measured quantity.
