Anthropic's June 9, 2026 launch description says Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 share the same underlying model but expose different capabilities through safeguards and access rules. Fable's safeguards can route requests on certain topics to Opus 4.8. Mythos lifts some restrictions for a limited group of cybersecurity defenders and infrastructure providers. The distinction therefore affects which model answers a request and which capabilities an authorized user can access. The same page later carries notices that access to both models was suspended on June 12 and that they were redeployed on July 1, so the launch description should not be read as a statement of current availability.
