How People Use Claude For Support Advice And Companionship

Anthropic's June 2025 study found that emotional and personal exchanges accounted for 2.9% of approximately 4.5 million sampled Claude.ai conversations. Its automated analysis identified exchanges involving advice, coaching, counseling and companionship. In these categories, users' language generally became slightly more positive over a conversation, according to the research article.

That finding measures expressed language within a chat. The study did not establish lasting emotional benefits, track changes in users' wellbeing over time or determine whether dependency developed. It provides evidence about how people used the assistant and how conversations unfolded, while leaving the longer-term effects unresolved.
