At Vercel in 2022–2024, he directed design engineering and worked as a principal designer across Geist, the dashboard, company sites and conferences. Contributions
Giving design feedback precise names
His Articulate reference explains the vocabulary behind interface decisions. Kerning adjusts the space between a specific pair of letters, while tracking changes spacing across a whole run of text. Similar distinctions cover typography, color, layout and motion. The practical value is more precise feedback: naming the property to change gives a colleague or coding agent a smaller, clearer instruction than asking for a design to feel better.[1][4]
Connecting design files to production components
His Vercel case study describes consolidating repeated interface elements into Geist, designed with Emil Kowalski on the basis of Paco Coursey’s earlier components. Matching Figma components to Next.js implementations gave designers and developers a shared reference. Hitchcock also drew an icon set for small UI sizes and linked product, marketing and documentation libraries, so examples could guide the use of individual assets.[5]
