Peter Steinberger created OpenClaw, an open-source personal AI agent, and joined OpenAI in February 2026 to work on agents. He previously founded PSPDFKit, the document-software company now called Nutrient.[1]

Career
Steinberger built PSPDFKit before returning to software development focused on AI. His personal site describes OpenClaw as a project he made and says it is now stewarded by an independent foundation. His February 2026 move to OpenAI continues that focus on making agents usable by a wider audience.[1]
Contributions
Document features other developers could embed
PSPDFKit began with an iOS software development kit, a package other developers could embed in their own applications. Nutrient’s engineering account explains that its original name came from Peter Steinberger PDF Kit, following Objective-C’s practice of prefixing framework names to prevent collisions. The product later expanded to additional platforms. That history places Steinberger’s earlier work in developer infrastructure: providing document capabilities inside applications, before his more recent projects supplied tools to AI agents.[6][1]
Software that gives agents practical tools
OpenClaw is a personal agent project: software intended to carry out tasks with connected tools. Steinberger also publishes smaller utilities that make this style of work easier to operate. CodexBar exposes coding-provider usage limits and reset windows in a desktop interface, helping users plan work around quotas. The summarize tool first extracts readable content from pages, files or media, then passes that content to a selected language model. Its extraction-only mode also makes it useful in ordinary shell pipelines.[2][3][4][5]

Try summarize on an article you know well to compare the extracted text and summary. You need a command-line setup and a configured model for generated summaries; extraction can run separately.
