Typesense is an open-source, typo-tolerant search engine written in C++, positioned as a faster, simpler alternative to Algolia, Pinecone, and Elasticsearch. It was co-founded by Kishore Nallan and Jason Bosco, who conceived the idea in 2015, open-sourced it in 2018, and left their full-time jobs by 2020 to focus on it after a popular Hacker News launch. The Houston, Texas-based company is self-funded and revenue-backed rather than venture-funded, and also runs Typesense Cloud, a managed hosting service.
