About
Multi-model chat and media platform with free daily points, paid subscriptions and add-on points. Official and user-created bots have different rates and data-handling rules. Its documented API spends the same point balance, with endpoint-specific compatibility limits.
At a glance
Poe is worth trying when you want to compare several AI models and media tools without managing a separate account and usage balance for each provider. It puts official and user-created bots behind one interface and a shared points system. The useful tradeoff is flexibility: choose where to spend the allowance. A subscription is not unlimited access to every model, and a bot’s rates and data handling matter as much as its name.
Good fit
People who switch between models for different tasks, and developers who want to route requests through one account. Poe documents Chat Completions and Responses formats familiar from the OpenAI API. API calls spend the same account points as app use. That can simplify experimenting across bots, but a provider model, a user-created prompt bot and a developer-hosted bot are different products. Check who operates the bot and which input or output features it actually supports.
Consider something else when
You need a predictable unlimited allowance, exact parity with each model provider’s own application, or a uniform privacy arrangement across every bot. The API guide also describes compatibility gaps, including ignored Chat Completions response-format fields and non-enforced strict function-call schemas. Its Responses section describes additional capabilities, so evaluate the endpoint and model together rather than assuming all formats behave alike. A successful model name lookup would not establish those guarantees.
Start here
Choose an official bot, open its Rates and privacy-shield information, then try a small task using public material. For a comparison, use the same passage and instructions with a second bot and check both the result and the points spent. The documented message Info view and Settings, View Points History expose usage. Auto-manage context reduces how much history is resent; including more history can increase cost. This is a suggested evaluation path based on the help pages. No prompts, files or API requests were sent for this review.
Cost and requirements
Non-paying users receive daily points that reset without rolling over. The Purchases FAQ advertises subscriptions starting at US$4.99 per month with plan-specific daily or monthly points; that is an advertised starting price, not a checked regional checkout quote. Subscription points generally do not roll over unless specified. Add-on points last one year. A bot can charge a fixed amount or vary with input, output and context. Paid models through the API require an active subscription or add-on points. An API key can spend its owner’s entire balance, so account access and bot selection are consequential for agents.
Limits to know
Poe’s privacy center says fully shaded shields prevent model-provider training on the interaction, while half-shaded bots may also send data to developers or external resources and may permit training. A full shield does not mean local processing or no retention. Memory is documented as off by default; enabling it shares useful context across providers, and deleting a chat need not delete its memory summary. API documentation says Poe UI-specific system prompts are skipped and some unsupported fields are silently ignored. These differences need testing for your workload. This source-only review did not compare response quality, measure costs, test an API client or audit provider retention.

Why it made the leaderboard
Worth trying for flexible access across models under one usage balance. Evaluate each bot’s rates, privacy shield and capabilities; one subscription does not establish unlimited use or full parity with provider applications.
