Context

GitHub has added two more models from OpenAI's GPT-6 family to Copilot. They sit alongside GPT-6 Astra, which Copilot had already made generally available, so the update adds choices for everyday agentic coding and smaller, lower-cost work rather than replacing Astra. According to GitHub's changelog, GPT-6 Sol is the balanced choice for interactive and agentic coding, meant for development work that benefits from careful, multistep validation. GPT-6 Luna is a lightweight model for smaller, faster tasks and the lowest-cost option in the GPT-6 family.

Which plan you are on decides access. Sol is offered on Copilot Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise, while Luna also reaches the cheaper Copilot Pro plan. Both are billed under usage-based billing. They appear in the model picker across GitHub's surfaces, including VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, Eclipse, the Copilot CLI, the Copilot cloud , the Copilot app, github.com and GitHub Mobile. GitHub says the rollout is gradual, so the models may not show up everywhere at once. For Business and Enterprise organizations, new models are switched on automatically under default model enablement. An administrator who wants to keep them off has to disable the global default or the specific model in Copilot's model policy.
