Vercel founder Guillermo Rauch argues that hosting agents changes what a cloud platform must support. In his Stanford talk, he contrasts quickly returning a web page with work that can continue for minutes or hours before producing a report or software.
His strategy combines hosting software produced by coding agents, hosting agents themselves and eventually having agents operate infrastructure. These are distinct demands: generating an application does not eliminate the work of running it.
“Writing code doesn't make you special. Deploying code and putting it in front of a customer does make you special.”
Guillermo Rauch
“The learning really begins when a user is confronted with the running version of your code.”
Guillermo Rauch
“Tokens are the new hot commodity.”
Guillermo Rauch
“I like to say that software is basically now free.”
