1/ This week, we worked on something special: bringing Omarchy to Apple Silicon with Lume. We got the official Omarchy 4.0.1 source running in an ARM64 VM backed by Apple's Virtualization.framework. Hyprland boots, the Omarchy shell renders, and Cua Driver can operate the desktop. 🧵

2/ The stock Omarchy ISO is x86-64-only, so it cannot boot in an ARM64 VM. Our path is: Apple Silicon → Lume / Virtualization.framework → Arch Linux ARM → official Omarchy source Rosetta is optional and translates user-space programs; it does not translate the kernel.

3/ We verified two cold boots, a guest reboot, Hyprland + Quickshell, keyboard and pointer input, HTTPS networking, native ARM64 Chromium, and Rosetta execution of a verified x86-64 program.

4/ Here are some examples we recorded with Cua Driver. Omacalc computes 6 × 7 = 42 with a synthetic Cua Driver cursor.

Context

Cua got the official Omarchy 4.0.1 source running in an ARM64 virtual machine on Apple Silicon Macs, using Lume and Apple's Virtualization.framework. The stock Omarchy ISO is x86-64-only, so it cannot boot in an ARM64 VM. Cua's path instead goes through Arch Linux ARM and layers the official Omarchy source on top. Rosetta is optional; it translates user-space programs, not the kernel.

Cua says it verified two cold boots, a guest reboot, Hyprland and Quickshell, keyboard and pointer input, HTTPS networking, native ARM64 Chromium, and Rosetta running one verified x86-64 program, and recorded Cua Driver operating apps including an editor and a native file picker. It lists gaps: software-rendered graphics, no virtio audio output in the tested guest, some Omarchy packages not yet available for ARM64, and dynamic x86-64 apps needing compatible libraries. It says this is not an official Omarchy ARM64 release, just official Omarchy source adapted to an ARM64 base for Lume.
