GLM-5.2 is Fully Open, Frontier Intelligence Belongs to Everyone Today, the sudden restriction of certain frontier models is deeply regrettable. At a time when access to frontier models is abruptly cut off for non-technical reasons, we are even more convinced of one thing: science should be global. The path to AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) must never be enclosed by high walls. We have always believed that AGI should be the cornerstone for all of humanity to collaboratively explore the boundaries of intelligence and solve complex challenges, rather than a privilege monopolized by a few rules and subject to revocation at any moment. In the face of external blockades and restrictions, our attitude is one of radical openness. Frontier intelligence must remain open-source, accessible, and buildable, serving every dedicated developer. GLM-5.2 is Zhipu's most capable open-source model to date. It not only supports a truly usable 1M context window but also maintains a continuous lead in the independent completion of long-horizon tasks, providing solid foundational support for building complex agent applications. It also continues to be our main engine for creating the strongest…

Jie Tang's announcement of GLM-5.2 is as much a statement of position as a release note. Posted on June 13, 2026, it opens by calling "the sudden restriction of certain frontier models" deeply regrettable and says access to frontier models was being cut off "for non-technical reasons." It does not name the models or the company involved. The response from Zhipu, the post says, is "radical openness": frontier intelligence should remain open-source, accessible and buildable, and AGI should not be a privilege "subject to revocation at any moment."
The concrete news is narrower. The post calls GLM-5.2 Zhipu's most capable open-source model so far, with a usable 1M- , meaning the amount of text the model can take in at once, and presents that as groundwork for building complex applications. It says the model would reach all GLM Coding Plan subscribers, on the Lite, Pro and Max tiers, that night, with the API going live the following week.
Its performance claim, that GLM-5.2 "maintains a continuous lead" in completing long-horizon tasks independently, comes with no numbers and no named comparison. Tang's technical launch post three days later supplies the architecture details and benchmark comparisons. This announcement settles when and to whom the model became available, and the open-access stance Zhipu chose to attach to it at a moment when, by its account, other frontier models were being restricted.
- token — The chunk of text a model reads and writes in — roughly three-quarters of a word — and the unit AI usage is billed in.
- context window — The maximum amount of text a model can consider at once — its working memory for the current conversation or task.
- AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
- open weights — A model whose trained parameters are published for anyone to download and run — unlike API-only models you can access but never possess.
