Context

OpenAI's July 30, 2026 pricing update offered two different tradeoffs. Luna's API prices fell 80%, to $0.20 per million input and $1.20 per million output tokens. Terra's fell 20%, to $2 and $12 respectively.

Sol instead gained Fast mode in the API: the company claimed up to 2.5 times the speed of Standard processing for twice the price, with unchanged intelligence. Developers could therefore pay less for Luna or Terra usage, or pay a premium to reduce waiting with Sol.
