About
Moonshot AI’s browser assistant for chat, research and document or artifact tasks. Modes, model/context choices and plan credits affect the workflow. The inspected Extra Long context option requires an eligible higher membership; general API billing is separate. International and China product terms must be checked for the account being used.
At a glance
Kimi is worth a focused trial if you want a browser workspace for researching a question and turning the result into a document, presentation or other artifact. Moonshot AI now offers more here than long-context chat: the current interface separates ordinary conversation, Deep Research, Docs, Sheets and other task modes. The useful question is whether one mode produces work you can verify and reuse. A large context window alone does not establish that the answer is complete or accurate.
Good fit
People who move between reading, synthesis and creating a deliverable. Ordinary chat suits a small question; the documented Deep Research workflow clarifies a topic, searches sources and assembles a cited report. It runs asynchronously rather than behaving like an instant answer box. Choose a mode around the output you need, and specify the question’s scope, date range and acceptable sources. The distinction helps avoid spending a larger research task on something a short conversation could resolve.
Consider something else when
You need a verified factual answer without checking references, or your material cannot be sent to a hosted consumer assistant under its applicable data terms. Also separate this web product from the general developer API: a Kimi membership does not provide shared API credits. Model and mode capabilities differ. The inspected chat menu offered Extra Long context up to one million tokens only for eligible higher memberships, with increased credit consumption. That is neither the default context setting nor a promise of equally long output or reliable retrieval from every part of a document.
Start here
After deciding whether to sign in, start with a short public passage whose facts you know. Ask ordinary chat for a summary that cites the supporting sentences, then check those references yourself. Move to Deep Research only for a question requiring several sources, and review its clarification before execution. Look for a supported conclusion and reusable output, rather than judging by report length. In the interface trial, submitting a synthetic one-sentence summarization task opened sign-in before an answer appeared. No account was created and no generated answer, research report or export was evaluated.
Cost and requirements
Evaluate the plan shown for your region and account. Published membership rules use a shared monthly credit pool across features: a research or coding task can reduce what remains for other work, and longer context and complex tasks can consume more. Unused monthly credits do not roll over under those rules. China’s current and legacy plan names differ, so their listed yuan prices should not be treated as a quote for the international interface. General API billing is separate. The research FAQ also warns that manually stopping a task can still consume credits. No checkout price, account entitlement or per-task bill was verified.
Limits to know
The international site’s linked privacy policy permits processing user content to improve and train models and describes retention and international transfers. Kimi’s China help center describes a support-mediated training opt-out and separate enterprise commitments; those should not be assumed to establish an international personal account’s settings or protections. Confirm the terms applying to your account before sending confidential work. The public interface was inspected, including model/context menus and the research entry, but generation stopped at sign-in. Citation quality, long-document coverage, editing, export and sustained usability remain untested.

Still unclear
- The quality and source accuracy of an actual generated report or artifact were not tested.
- International account-specific prices, credit allowance and training opt-out controls were not established.

Why it made the leaderboard
Worth a focused trial for turning research into a reusable deliverable, with source checking and plan/data terms part of the decision. The public interface and context controls were inspected, but a synthetic chat prompt stopped at sign-in before any answer. Output quality and exports remain untested.
