Agent runtimes take over the work around the model

Today’s important releases moved beyond raw model capability into the systems that make agents useful: OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra for computer use and coding, Anthropic pushed desktop control into the background, and Google refreshed its fast model line. GitHub and LangChain exposed the less glamorous work underneath: controlling token cost and making MCP deployable without sticky sessions.   Google released Gemini 3.8 Flash at the same introductory token rates as 3.7, with claimed gains in coding and agent work. Artificial Analysis found 30% more output and roughly 40% higher cost per task, so an unchanged rate does not mean an unchanged workload.
